Annual meeting minutes
Western Mass Relics Senior Softball League
Date/Time of Meeting – 25 Feb 2016/7 PM
Commissioner Joe Conway opened the meeting by greeting new members in attendance. The treasurer reported a balance of $6,912.73 in our account at Webster Bank as of today. There were 76 members in attendance.
Joe thanked the Board of Directors, the coaches, the field maintenance crew now including new volunteers Don Normandin and newly retired Jack Shea. He also thanked Dock Ericksberg and Russ Maclean and Dean Brust and all the other umpires (more umps needed - call Dock if you can help). All these folks help make the Relics a successful low cost softball league. At 215 players on 12 teams we are at our ideal size for scheduling purposes.
Thanks to Gerry Glasser Esq. for doing the legal work necessary to make us a 501 c non profit corporation.
Thanks to Pat Lombardo for his heroic efforts that have made the annual picnic and Christmas Party a big success. Also to Ray Saccoccio who generously provides the tunes.
Thanks to Bill Koss for coordinating the USMC Sgt Joshua Desforges, annual game and our members for playing. The Relics donated $250 to the scholarship fund in his name.
Capital improvements. We will be purchasing a $4000 Scag commercial mower that should reduce the cutting time from the current 3 hours to 2 hours or less. Thanks Bill Koss once again. Also we have authorized $2500 for the purchase of bench covers at the Fish. They will enhance the look of the field and provide some protection from the elements. Many thanks to Phil Thibodeau who is doing all construction at his shop.
Thanks to Walt Darcey for building a new tournament trophy case
Thanks to our computer guy, Doug Newton, who with help from Darrell Weldon has greatly improved our website (no more anonymous posts among many improvements)
Thanks to Darrell Weldon who heads up the Banner program. We now have 8 or 9 banners at $250 each for a two year period. Any Relic who sells a banner will have his dues waived for one year.
Thanks to Sunshine Club volunteers Bill Freeman (Gold) and now Mike Dutton (Silver). They send card to members who are hurt, ill or have lost family members. Paul Grudgen suggests happier occasions might also call for a card or announcement on web site.
Lani Kukahiko and several members spoke in favor of a one year experiment allowing certain members who are 65 and up to play together as a team in the silver division. There are pros and cons to this proposal and the matter will be decided by canvassing the silver players
